Dr. Craig was recently interviewed by Nicole Boone on her show, Conversations with Nicole. In the interview, they covered a variety of topics including Covid-19, how to boost our immune systems, the important role Vitamin D plays in keeping us healthy, and more. Watch the video and read the article to learn how you can get and stay healthy.
Our bodies were created with the ability to fight off viruses and sicknesses. We were born with immune systems designed to take on intruders (germs) and render them harmless. And then, going forward, those germs and the sickness would be ineffective or have much less impact on our health.
But, over time, there have been a number of things that have taken a toll on our immune system that has left us in a weakened state. And because measures haven’t been taken to strengthen our immune system we find ourselves more reliant on medications including immunizations and antibiotics.
So, the question is…
How can we reverse the damage that has been done to our immune systems and build it back up so it’s strong enough to fight off viruses and bacterial infections?
Start With Your Mouth
The food you eat is critically important to the health of your immune system.
Whenever possible you should be eating organic meat, vegetables, and fruits. Avoiding GMO (genetically modified) food, and food treated with pesticides and herbicides needs to be at the top of everyone’s list. These foods have been linked to a number of sicknesses including cancer.
Drinking water and staying hydrated are extremely important to keeping your body strong. Unfortunately, many people don’t realize that the containers their water comes in can be creating havoc on their immune system. Plastic water bottles contain chemicals that are released into the water we are digesting. Look for alternative ways to store and drink your water from like glass or aluminum water bottles.
Even the medicine we take, that is meant to help us can have harmful and toxic side effects. This is why here at Inlet Phyiscal Medicine we look for alternatives and more natural approaches to treating health conditions. We want to support your immunes system and provide it with the nutrients it needs to become stronger, not make it weaker.
Watch What You Put on Your Body
Reports indicate that the average woman puts more than 140 chemicals on her body before she leaves for work in the morning. From makeup to moisturizer to hairspray and lotions. All of the chemicals contained in these products are being absorbed into the body.
For those who enjoy the beach, from Myrtle Beach to Murrells Inlet, sunscreen is a staple in the beach bag. But, within that sunscreen are a number of dangerous chemicals that can drag down our immune systems as they are absorbed into our bodies.
The Powerful Role of Vitamin D
While Vitamin D is referred to as a vitamin it’s actually a hormone and is a vital part in helping boost and strengthen your immune system. So, what are the benefits of optimizing your Vitamin D?
- In some studies, its been shown to:
- Reduce the risk of age-related macular degeneration
- Lower the chances of developing dementia
- Improve pulmonary function
- Reduce the risk of breast cancer
- Improve mood
- Increase bone strength
One of the biggest misconceptions about vitamin D is that you can get sufficient amounts from just being in the sun. Unfortunately, this isn’t always the case which is why its important to monitor your levels through blood tests and supplements if needed.
Don’t Wait Until Your Sick
We’ve all heard the saying ‘an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure’. And while it’s a catchy phrase it’s also very true. By practicing what we’ve recommended above you’ll be boosting your immune system and putting yourself in a great position to prevent sickness.
